The World Baseball Classic, a world baseball tournament, is currently (15 March 2023) being held, with games being played in Tokyo and the US. Japan’s national team, known as Samurai Japan, is through to the quarter-finals with an unbeaten record. Following the TOKYO 2020 Olympic Games held two summers ago, many reporters from overseas have visited Japan, and although the sports media reporters seem to be enjoying Tokyo for the first time since the Olympics, they are busy and don’t have time for sightseeing. So what keeps them entertained? Japanese snacks. Potato snacks “Jagarico” and chocolate bar “Black Thunder” are particularly popular. Both are inexpensive and easy to find, and […]
If you have visited Japan during the winter season, one of the fruits you will have eaten is the tangerines. Japanese tangerines are very different from those in other countries, both in shape and taste. Outside Japan, they are sold in supermarkets under the trade name “Satsuma”, but they are smaller than the tangerines you eat in Japan. Japanese tangerines are smaller than Valencia and California oranges, but larger than Satsumas, and are slightly flattened rather than spherical in shape. The skin is soft and can be easily peeled without a knife, and the juice does not overflow when peeled. Each cluster of fruit is independent and is eaten by […]
You can find a 7-eleven convenience store almost anywhere in Japan. But do you know they have a good selection of sandwich snacks and sweets? They are not so expensive but the quality is very high. We would like to recommend their Egg Salad roll sandwich when you want something light to bite. It is just over 100 yen, 120 yen + tax to be precise. The egg mayonnaise is very soft and creamy, the volume of the filling is quite generous, and the roll bread is very soft and light. It is just a right portion for a snack: definitely a healthier snack than a chocolate bar or potato […]
Ringer Hut is a kind of fast food restaurants you can find almost any shopping areas in Japan. They serve Chanpon raman and Sara-Udon, deep fried thin raman with toppings. Both are the most famous and popular local dishes in Nagasaki. Ramen from Nagasaki is called “Chanpon” which means “mix variety of things”. The noodles for Chanpon are quite thick, the soup has unique creamy colour and tastes a kind of creamy as well. Their deep fried thin noodles are called “Sara-udon“. Although it is called udon, the noodles are unlike standard udon. They are deep-fired and each udon is much thinner and very crispy. One portion of noddles is […]
Do you like Japanese Sweets? If so, we highly recommend to try Hattendo’s custard cream buns! They are our all time favourite! Theses buns with special creamy custard are very soft and light, and best served cold! Each bun is stuffed with a variety of flavoured custard, e.g. Macha, Azuki, chocolate, and seasonal fruits, etc. and these custard creams are sooooo gooooood!! Hattendo is based in Hiroshima but has direct shops all over Japan. They expanded to overseas such as Korea, Taiwan and the Philippines.Hattendo has launched many other sweets but the most famous one is Cream Custard buns. They have launched skin care products in 2017 as a brand […]
Do you know the Japanese recipe site called “DELISH KITCHEN”? It is our favorite recipe site. It is very intuitive and easy to follow each procedure. If you have most of the ingredients, which are usually very common ingredients for any Japanese households, you can make a quick dish so easily with them. Even if you do not have all the ingredients, you can adapt the ideas or arrange it for your own dish. I tried this recipe this weekend, “Mentai mayonaise Imo Mochi”. Mentai is spicy cod roe, but I substituted it with pickles. Imo is potatoes. Mochi is rice paste, but you do not need it. All you […]
A lot of different types of rice is grown all over the world. Some are very similar to Japanese rice, but to be honest, not quite the same at all! It is only plain rice but you wouldn’t deny that Japanese rice is unique and totally different from others. Not to mention it plays such an important role in Japanese cooking and dish. There are absolutely no substitutes for it. Unfortunately, we, Omotenashi Japan do not have the official license to export Japanese rice to overseas. But we will always find out an alternative way to meet your needs!! We would herewith like to introduce some Japanese rice stockists who […]
